- English & Literacy
English & Literacy
We encourage pupils to develop and improve their competence in the communication skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. All our Schemes of Work are differentiated ensuring all pupils are accommodated and we work closely with our Special Educational Needs Coordinator to provide additional support when necessary.
The study of geography encourages pupils to make connections between different pieces of information, to form opinions, make decisions and create well thought out arguments based on evidence. It allows them to build upon their knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live and gain a deeper understanding of their role and place in our world.
We aim to develop and empower pupils creative thinking, problem solving, curiosity, time management, managing information, exploration and resilience skills through the study of history.
- Home Economics
Home Economics prepares young people for independent living. Pupils acquire knowledge, understanding and practical skills in areas such as diet, food choice, family, financial and consumer awareness.
Information Computer Technology
ICT is an essential part of modern life; we give students a basic competence at KS3 with the opportunity to progress to GCSE at KS4.
- Learning for Life
Learning for Life and Work
Pupils will learn to become responsible citizens and will understand the rights and responsibilities of citizens of Northern Ireland. They will develop attitudes of tolerance, understanding, loyalty and respect for those around them.
- Mathematics & Numeracy
Mathematics & Numeracy
Mathematics is an essential tool for everyday life, being necessary in many aspects of work and leisure, but it is also a valuable subject in its own right, having made a significant contribution to the development of our present society. We encourage pupils to be aware that their mathematical knowledge and skills are transferable to other subjects such as Science, Geography, and Technology.
- Modern Languages
Languages extend horizons! Learning a language is always more successful and also more enjoyable if it is seen as entering another world, and exploring a different culture and way of life.
In the Music Department we realise that all pupils are different and have varying abilities in music, and therefore the most important thing is that they try their best and enjoy what they are doing! Music should always be fun!
- Occupational Studies
We offer courses at Key Stage 4 in Electrical Wiring Installation, Vehicle Maintenance, and Beauty Services.
- Physical Education
We are a school with a long and successful sporting tradition and have always emphasised the importance of pupil involvement in a broad range of both team and individual sporting activity. The benefits of playing sports cannot be over stated. Through participation in sports pupils can adopt life-long interests which will improve their physical and mental health and social relationships.
- Religious Education
In the RE department, along with other agencies such as the home and the church, we are concerned with the spiritual and moral development of young people. We believe that it is very important to have a clear vision for the subject and those young lives temporarily entrusted to our care.
Science is the systematic and organised study into the world around us which allows us to gain a deeper and often more useful understanding. We endeavour to highlight the importance of developing pupils as individuals, contributors to society, and contributors to the economy and environment.
