Programme of Study

Written on .

Students study Religious Education for two periods each week in years 8 – 10. They follow the core syllabus for Religious Education in Northern Ireland and some of the units that students study include:

- The Christian Church

- Jesus and the Early Church

- Issues of Morality

- The Bible

- People who have put their faith into action

- World Religions

The work that students undertake in years 8 – 10 provides a good foundation for further study at GCSE level.

Workbooks, videos and other materials are available to support the teaching of these units.  Teachers are also encouraged to draw on their own and the pupils’ experience to develop these topics, especially the unit on the church today.  Much of this material lends itself to discussion, visits and visitors, all of which are encouraged.  The section on the modern church is also a good place to introduce project work.
